"One Week in Portland": comment by Bob Aman

I live in Rochester, NY, which many people consider to be one of the dullest cities in the United States. Seattle’s weather, and none of the fun. People here consider going to the grocery store to be about the best there is in terms of interesting things to do. Seriously. (Mind you, we do have the best grocery store chain anywhere, bar none, but I digress…)

I’ve recently starting trying to figure out where I would want to move to if I did move, and every time I start thinking about it, Portland keeps topping the list because I keep hearing people in the open source and especially the ruby community giving it a huge thumbs up.

Jeremy,

You have never stayed at another city before! Travel and get the feeling. I have been around the world, and Portland is OK. Enjoy

As some of you already understand, I haven’t been worth much as a blogger this past week because I’ve accepted the position of Lead Architect at Planet Argon and relocated to Portland, Oregon. After living here for one week, I submit that Portland is quite possibly the nicest city in the United States. There is an abundance of culture as well as an active open source community. Robby and Allison have also been very supportive and helpful through the transition, and I appreciate their kindness.

Expect to hear more from me in the near future, as I am still getting into my Portland swing, and also stay tuned for more about Refactoring Rails coming soon!
